Dear Towers Unit Owners and Tenants:
On Thursday May 3rd at approximately 10:15 AM the Towers fire alarm safety system was activated and was de-activated within 45 minutes when the Ft Myers Fire Dept. checked out the entire complex. This particular situation was the result of a heat sensor being disturbed by work being performed in one of our utility rooms and not the result of a fire anywhere on the premises.
The entire complex was, however, put in harms way by the actions of a resident who disabled the entire alarm warning system for the complex by disconnecting the alarm in his unit. This unfortunate situation was not rectified until the following day and in the interim we had to provide around the clock fire watch protection by volunteers or pay the Fire Fyter service $88 per hour for their services. It is imperative to note that anyone disabling the wall mounted alarm in their respective unit is subject to being charged with a third degree felony.
In a door-to-door investigation of units in Bldg’s 1 and 5 by two Board Members it was discovered that a number of units did not have smoke detectors and some were missing the Fire Fyter alarms. Current City of Fort Myers Code relative to fire protection requires that three smoke detectors be present in two bedroom units, one in the hallway, and one in each of the bedrooms. One-bedroom units are required to have one mounted in the central hallway and one in the bedroom. If by chance your unit does not have a 4”x 2” square Fire Fyter alarm mounted in your hallway, please notify the office so that arrangements can be made to have one installed at no cost to the resident.
On the subject of smoke detectors, in order to assure the safety of all residents and their loved ones, we are requiring that all units come into compliance with current fire safety regulations. The cost, approx. $9.99 or less, for each battery operated detector is a small price to pay for the assurance that everyone at the Towers will have the protection they are entitled to. We are setting a deadline of July 1st of this year for compliance to this potentially life-saving matter and we will be conducting a door-to-door check shortly thereafter.
Your attention to and action with respect to this critical matter is deeply appreciated.
Pool passes, with keys are now required and are available at the clubhouse. Keys are $12.00. All vehicles must be registered and have a parking sticker. Please bring proof or residency to office with registration of vehicle ownership. Non-registered vehicles with out sticker or overnight parking pass will be towed at owner’s expense. Clubhouse hours are 10:30 am to 3:30pm, Monday thru Friday.
Very truly yours,
The Towers Board of Directors |
